		<description>Mel,

I read your post on Fedora Planet today. Though not deaf, I have extremely poor hearing, and can empathize greatly. I can ask people to speak up several times, and when they won&#039;t I often find it easier to just give up.

I always appreciate your writing on Fedora Planet, and just want to encourage you to keep up your excellent work!

<description>Nice essay! Trying to figure out what this site is all about :-). Join the CCAC if you want to advocate for speech-to-text (quality captioning/CART) with and for so many of us.
Cheers,

<description>This is why one of my eventual goals for Plover is to make it so common and widespread -- especially in geek communities -- that people can just drop into conversational-speed steno as appropriate, whether to accommodate someone with hearing loss, or to make the conversation less public/more intimate, or to be able to easily insert hyperlinks or other media, or to be able to keep a verbatim record of the proceedings, or whatever. Of course, it would require good HMDs and unobtrusive wearable steno rigs, but I remain convinced that once the hardware is available, the geeks will be all over that action. I hope so, anyway.
