I was there with my family for 6 months completing the National Library building (the one that looks like the Jetsons live there). I'm afraid we thought the shopping was the best thing about Singapore - especially Sim Lin Tower - the mecca for all things digital. Hawker centres are definitely the best place to eat in Singapore.
