'distribute' is just the action of dealing cards.

I don't think it's a convention of any kind, though.

Y'alls signs are cool.

don't look to me for learning many signs. My sign is a horrible pigeon sign language.

> Comment: so - I think the signs are great but I have to ask why? In
> regular conversation you'd only really need one letter and 'distro'
> to get the point across. And then if you use indexing you can just
> refer to a point in space for that specific distro.

Ooh. I actually don't know the sign for 'distro.' Will have to learn some signs from you at FUDCon; my vocabulary caps out at a 8th grade classroom level because that was the last year I had an interpreter, and that was the only context I ever saw ASL in.

> I admit my partner and I speak more of a signed english than asl but
> if we ever have to refer to things like fedora or ubuntu it's just a
> single finger-spelled letter.
>
> What motivated the need for the sign?

Mackenzie's learning ASL, and I've been trying to unrustificate myself and learn how to do output as well as input (I grew up oral, so I never had anyone I needed to sign back to, so I didn't). We were having an agonizingly slow conversation about Linux distributions over dinner, and the agonizing slowness came from needing to repeatedly fingerspell the distro names, so we went "agh!" and made some up.

If there's a more conventional way of doing this (letter + 'distro') I'll gladly switch.
