The phobia lasted 17 years.

March 22, 2009 – 9:33 am

Today was full of win. I played music with other people and did not freak out. Tonight, however, typing is not an option. Dasher is slow, but rocks.

I am no longer terrified of playing music with other people. Shaky and a little nervous and in need of practice, sure. But the irrational terror is gone.

I want more.

  2. Awesome, Mel! That sounded great! I’m terribly jealous of your mad musical jamming abilities.

  4. as someone who grew up playing in middle school band, high school band, drum and bugle corp, pep squad and marching band, I never had such issues about playing in a large group in front of large groups of people even thought I was not an A-class player, so I don’t quite understand the issue apart from the general fear of public performance or perhaps being uncomfortable with peoples’ reactions to less-than-perfect playing. Being able to play an instrument, at least to me, was something that was enjoyable even if I was in an sound-proof room with no one around. But if its something that you had an issue with in the past and now have overcome, that is great. Though I never saw you as someone who would be fearful of anything ;)
