For the record, Gobby and then upload to wiki is how we did transcripts during Wikimania 2007 in Boston.

Insects, I'm going to email you this in a second, but check out http://notemesh.com - contributing to a global notes pool so that students outside your classes can use your notes as well would provide more leverage and generally more Awesomeness. (http://wikiversity.org would be an alternative hosting location, if your profs are cool with the licensing at either this/notemesh.)

If you want a more internal solution, a private install of mediawiki isn't too hard (but can be slow - to get around that, use MoinMoin, dokuwiki, or insert-alternative-engine-here instead). The trouble with simultaneous notetaking is merging.

My friends and I have tried simultaneous notetaking with gobby (writing in plaintext and using wiki markup, unlike in Google Docs where you're all wysiwyg) and then posting that to the wiki immediately after class. It never really caught on, but it worked... reasonably well, in my opinion.

When I start classes again in the spring, I fully intend to try to type pure stream transcript of the class like Phil did this past weekend.

My goal is to produce a wiki for all of my classes, and if anyone want's to share *their* notes they can do so as well.

Why hasn't this been done? Am I missing something? Are my fellow students so technically illiterate?
